Financial Seminar 2009

Financial Seminar 2009 is an event that organized bySIFE MMU specifically to create awareness among students towards the global financial crisis that happened recently. As university graduate‐to‐be, student are ought to know and understand the financial situation faced by our nation and even worldwide. Besides, Financial Seminaralso educates students on how to spend their money wisely and to avoid financial problems during study lives. Nevertheless, experts from finance field will be invited to give their opinions and explanations on various financial issues. Experts from investment field also will be invited to educate students on available investment opportunities and to explain on investment steps and procedures.

After attend this forum students will be expected to be able to manage their own personal financial expenses, equip students with essential financial knowledge and lastly expose various investment opportunities to student.

The theme for this event is "Spend Wise, Invest Smart".

One District, One Industry

Dear Sifer,

SIFE representatives from the universities all over Malaysia were called for a one day meeting by SIFE Malaysia on the 20th November 2008 that took place at Bangunan MARA. The meeting was about SIFE Malaysia Community Enterprise/SDSI Grant Program Under The Flagship of "One District, One Industry". The program is a collaboration between SIFEMalaysia and Ministry of Entrepreneur & Cooperative Development.

"One District, One Industry" is a new project by SIFE Malaysia in the form of competition between all university SIFEs in Malaysia where the winning team will be representing SIFE Malaysia in SIFE World Cup. It is a long term project that is hoped to be SIFE Malaysia's "secret weapon" against SIFEs from other countries in the SIFE World Cup. This long term project consists of 3 phases that will take a maximum of 30 months or 2 1/2 years time.

The main objective of the program is to promote the concept and practices of "social entrepreneurship" within the community. Furthermore, SIFE students are expected to be further engaged with community to help them understand entrepreneurship, involve in business start-ups and sustain their enterprises. This program is also to design and implement a more comprehensive and sustainable entrepreneurial outreach project and maximise result. Lastly, this project aims to create more entrepreneurs and more economic opportunities for the community.

SIFE members are to act as mentors or consultants to the community to teach them the concept of entrepreneurship. It is a heavy responsibility for SIFE members to be consultants to the community as they need to teach them everything including how and to whom they can ask for loans. Furthermore, even choosing the right machinery needed for the industry chosen might be one of the responsibilities of SIFE members. However, we need to think positively because this is a very good opportunity for SIFE members to apply what they have learned in lectures and to gain valuable hands-on experiences that will surely be useful in the near future and to be competitive in the globalised world.

Greetings from SIFE Malaysia!

Welcome To GEW MALAYSIA!

Countries all around the world are joining together to carry the banner of Global Entrepreneurship Week, an initiative aimed at young people everywhere.During the week of November 17 - 23, 2008, partner organizations will conduct a range of activities - from simple speeches to comprehensive competitions - designed to inspire, connect, inform, mentor and engage the next generation of entrepreneurs.

The Week is a worldwide initiative that is linking all those willing to embrace it. Host organizations in each participating country are recruiting partners and coordinating related activities. And while a list of suggested activities such as invention competitions, entrepreneurship film festivals, networking events, school-based activities, and local entrepreneurship summits - will be available on the website, the actual activities conducted by partners will vary greatly.

We are looking forward to “The Week” which will all happen in 17th-25th November 2008 all around the world and in Malaysia, our partners have come up with many activities that will ignite the entrepreneur spirit in all of us and this program have been launched by Deputy Minister of Entrepreneurship, Dato' Saifuddin Abdullah last Tuesday (November 21, 2008) for National Level.

We hope to see you participate in the activities and suggest or create some activities for your own community.
